My background and my approach in training, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.
Forever a fitness aficionado, I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, where my long-standing passion for exercise evolved from simply being a form of recreation, to a career in which I am fortunate to be able to share my knowledge and enthusiasm. More than just a job for me, I enjoy every aspect of being a Personal Trainer – from the training itself, to the ongoing interactions, and especially the ability to make a positive impact on the fitness, health, and overall wellness of others.
As well as personal training, I also teach martial arts, most specifically Renbukai Karate (Sandan / 3rd degree black belt) and Ryūkyū Kobudō Tesshinkan (Nidan / 2nd degree black belt), plus yoga (Hatha/Ashtanga/Yin).
I began my personal training career in 2003, and have since built two successful businesses in both Calgary, Alberta and most recently, in Victoria, BC. I am thrilled to now be a Personal Trainer in Courtenay, British Columbia, to continue my career in an active and health-conscious community, within a setting that offers the lifestyle and surroundings that I love. It is also here that I have realized a life long dream of opening my own Comox Valley fitness studio, Ki Fitness & Health, where I, and others, share our services in fitness & health.
Personally, I enjoy strength & conditioning training, regular martial arts and yoga practice, cycling, hiking, and all things outdoors, plus a variety of other activities. I continue to explore new avenues of fitness, and enjoy the endless ways one can keep active – it is never too late to try something new, and there is something out there for everyone!
I am a strong believer in the "personal" aspect of personal training. I recognize you are unique, not only as it pertains to your training, but as an individual as well. I am realistic and place stress on quality.
I strive to make each session as enjoyable, safe, and efficient as possible, while utilizing proper technique and innovative exercise. I create personalized workouts that continuously evolve as you inevitably progress. I enjoy all new challenges I encounter as I help you reach your full potential.
My approach is founded in "functional training": training the body as it is used to perform activities in your daily life, for work, recreation, or otherwise. I believe in training the body from the "inside-out", focusing on where movement originates and how it is transferred. I seek balance in strength, power, and flexibility, with a strong focus on posture, core, and mobility. I combine science/research-based techniques with unique exercises to produce optimal results.
I believe in the importance of educating my clients in fitness, health, and nutrition, teaching fundamental and essential skills so you will have the tools for continued and independent success.
I enjoy training anyone and everyone, and have experience with a diverse clientele with a variety of fitness & health goals. Whatever your fitness & health aims may be, your goals become my goals, and I am equally enthused and dedicated to reach them.
